JUBILEE JOY Town Celebrates Royal Landmark

Crowds in Northallerton enjoyed a feast of entertainment to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last weekend.

The Right Royal Extravaganza organised by Northallerton Business Improvement District (BID) included stage singers, Northallerton Silver Band, Northallerton Musical Theatre and two walkabout ‘royal’ princesses.

Guest singers were jazz specialist Beth Clarke and former North of England Act of the Year Mark Allen, who has performed alongside Gareth Gates, Blue, Atomic Kitten, Hear’Say and Liberty X.

Performers celebrated the 70 years of the Queen’s reign with hits through the decades – everything from Vera Lynn classics to modern, dance-along favourites.

In a rousing finale, Northallerton Musical Theatre performed show-stoppers including songs from the Queen’s favourite musicals such as OklahomaSouth PacificThe King and I and The Wizard of Oz. They finished with some wartime favourites such as We’ll Meet Again, White Cliffs of DoverWhen the Lights Go On Again. My Girl’s a Yorkshire Girl and Consider Yourself from Oliver.

“We’re hugely indebted to all our performers for making it such an enjoyable Jubilee celebration,” said BID manager Graham Bell.
