CONTROVERSIAL CHRISTMAS TREE SET TO CONFOUND CRITICS
You are cordially invited to Northallerton on Sunday December 2 when a Christmas tree that has been in the national media spotlight will be lit up for the first time.
The 23-feet feature outside the Town Hall has become a major talking point after a national newspaper labelled it ‘Britain’s worst Christmas tree’.
But Northallerton Business Improvement District, which ordered the artificial tree for Santa’s Street Party this coming weekend, has staunchly defended its actions and manager Julia Robinson is convinced the glorious light show will make critics change their minds.
“We urge everyone to come to Northallerton and make up their own minds,” she says. “People will be absolutely amazed at how wonderful it looks.”
Santa arrives in Northallerton at 12 noon on Sunday and the tree will be lit at 4pm when he departs on his sleigh. It’s just part of a major Christmas extravaganza for the town, with the Three Wise Men on camels, nativity scenes and carol singalongs.
There is also a Northallerton Pole workshop for children to enjoy on Central Arcade.
