Hospice Care Week 8-14th October
Hospice Care week is an annual week of activity to raise the profile of hospice care across the UK. The aim is to raise awareness and celebrate the amazing work that hospices carry out in the community and encourage people to support their local hospice by donating, volunteering and showing they care- this year’s theme is ‘Heart my Hospice’.
As your local hospice at home service, Herriot Hospice Homecare would love you to get on board and support us during Hospice Care Week. They can provide an assortment of materials to help you raise awareness of the care and support we provide in the local community as well as our volunteering and fundraising opportunities. They are also encouraging people to take photos with our #HeartMyHospice placards on social media to help raise awareness. It would also be fantastic if you could fundraise during this week, they can provide collection tins and buckets as well as lots of fundraising hints and tips!
Herriot Hospice provides end of life care, free of charge, to the residents of North Yorkshire, Hambleton and Richmondshire and they need to raise £1 million pounds to continue delivering this service. This rural area equates to 1000 square miles, their Health Care Assistants travel 271,000 miles a year which is the equivalent of circling the globe more than 10 times!
The care they provide in our community ensures that the last days count and that people suffering with terminal illnesses don’t lose their identity and can feel like the individuals they are. They also offer bereavement support, be-friending and driver services and respite sitting. This practical, emotional and psychological support can make a really tough and difficult time a little bit easier for the whole family.
